200 Words’ 20 Best Remixes Of 2012

For the third installment of 200 Words’ Best Of 2012 we take a look at the very best and most genius remixes of 2012, and there have been many. Too much to cover. The reason for the rise of the remix - 3 R’s, alliteration is my friend - is that remixing tracks is getting easier everyday, it’s an internet age thing. Like everything, all those remixes being online have an upside and a downside. There’s too much to listen to and it’s hard to find the best tracks. On the other hand it feels like more and more good remixes are posted online for all of us to enjoy. Because there are so many remixes online this might be a nice list for you to get an overview of what -subjectively- the best remixes of 2012 are.
Talking about the internet age, look at Bondax for example, two boys that take over the blogosphere at the age of eightteen, just because they have a computer and a damn good taste. Or look at Disclosure, two brothers aged 16 and 18, or Cyril Hahn, who took the internet by storm, or pretty much everyone in the list. From young to old producers, all remixes are of great quality.
20. Mayer Hawthorne - No Strings (RAC Remix) 19. Paralyzed Oddissee marvin gaye 18. James Blake - Never Learnt To Share (M-Phazes Remix) 17. Toro y Moi - So Many Details (Remix ft. Hodgy Beats) 16. Hermitude - Hyperparadise (Flume Remix) 15. How To Dress Well - Cold Nites (Koreless remix) 14. Shigeto - Field Day (Braille remix) 13. Flosstradamus - Rollup (Baauer Remix) 12. Destiny’s Child - Say My Name (Cyril Hahn remix) 11. The xx - Angels (Bodhi Remix) 10. Lianne La Havas - Age (Ryan Hemsworth Remix)
It is a great song by itself, but mr. Hemsworth gave it that little something something: bass and beautiful synths.
9. LOL Boys - Changes (Shlohmo Remix) Shlohmo is one of the most productive remixers out there and this is his signature style: deep and slow change-ups that can make you feel sad and happy simultaneously.
8. Szjerdene - 4th Stranger (FS Green Remix) To of Amsterdam’s finest artists of the moment, though Szjerdene originally hails from London, get together, or at least FS Green remixes her quite sad tune into a summer-ish party tune.
7. Jessie Ware - Wildest Moments (Star Slinger remix) Jessie Ware, one of the best songstresses of 2012, gets remixed by Star Slinger, one of the best and most successful remixers of 2012.
6. Seye - Mexicana Bounce (Bondax Remix) The original is quite strange but this remix is perfect. The Bondax guys can just make everything sound good.
5. The-Dream - Can’t Wait To Hate You (Jerome LOL remix) I think Jerome LOL got better after splitting up from the LOL Boys, as proves this track.
4. Jeremih - 773 Love (Ryan Hemsworth Squaresoft Bootleg) Jeremih’s most recent tape may be 2012’s most underestimated and undervalued album, but due to all the great remixes, like this one by Ryan Hemsworth, it gets at least some of the attention it deserves.
3. The xx - Angels (Four Tet remix) Jamie XX of the xx and Four Tet made a deal: Four Tet would remix a track by the xx and Jamie XX would remix a Four Tet track. The results are stunning resulting in top 5 spots in 200 Words’ 20 Best Remixes of 2012 list.
2. Four Tet - Lion (Jamie XX remix) This is probably one of the catchiest though original tunes of 2012 as well. Jamie XX is both the master of sound, but also the master of silence. The way he uses silence and climax-building is beautiful.
1. Jessie Ware - Runnin’ (Disclosure remix) As said, Jessie Ware is a great songstress but in electronic music Disclosure are on top of their and everyone else’s game.
